Chris, founder of Pathways in 1984, is a professionalguide, photographer and publisher. His most famous coffee table book, TheBowron Lakes: British Columbia's Wilderness Canoe Circuit, is about thevery area he guides in. Chris loves to share the natural world with othersboth with his camera and his enthusiasm for life. His adventurous careeras a mountaineer and international traveler provides for fascinating firesideconversation. Chris is also a stock photographer and international phototour leader. If photography is an interest of yours, join Chris to enjoyand learn from his personalized instruction. Dean Hull Dean has been wilderness guiding in BC and Yukonsince 1973. He is also a high school educator of special interest groupsincluding outdoor education programs for low achievers. Dean, who lovesmeeting and interacting with people, has a temendous sense of humour. Hehas guided over 90 trips around the Bowron Lakes and most of the excitingrivers in Yukon. In relaxed and jovial atmosphere, you'll laugh and enjoyhis wilderness stories around the campfire. Specialty Trips In the past, Pathways has catered to specific interestgroups such as business executives, photographers and women only on a specialrequest basis. Now, due to a greater demand, we are offering separate departures,one especially designed for "women only" and the other for photographers.If you are a woman who would prefer to adventure with fellow female friends,or someone who would like to learn more about photography, consider joiningone of these trips. Or, if you are part of an organization or private groupthat would enjoy tripping with people that have some other special interest,call us well in advance to reserve your own departure. Bowron Park has granted Pathways prime reserved campsites,eliminating the competitive "first come first serve" syndrome. This allowsus to enjoy a more leisurely canoe pace each day and provides us with thesecurity of a private site each night. Canoes and double occupancy tentsare top of the line models for comfort and safety. You are required tobring only your personal gear. Sleeping bags, pads and backpacks are availablefor rent. Each day, we cook and provide you with wholesome hot meals. Greatcare is taken to ensure that your Bowron Lake canoeing holiday will a mostpleasurable one. Fitness Requirements This canoe adventure consists of 108 km (65 miles)of paddling and 8 km (5 miles) of portaging. To assist with portaging (thelongest is 2.4 km), each canoe is provided with a two-wheeled canoe carrier.Canoe partners pull their canoe and group gear over the portages, thusavoiding heavy shoulder loads. Some portages are hilly, however, and whenwet can require considerable energy. Good health, reasonable fitness and plenty of enthusiasmare your only requirements. Although it's an outdoor adventure for allages, including seniors, one should be aware that this is a wildernessexperience. Paddling distances range from 2 to 17 kms per day, and inclementweather can make even a short day challenging. Canoeing instruction isprovided when necessary so that everyone can learn to paddle their canoesafely. |
